Tiwa Savage video withdrawn by YouTube over copyright claims by a fellow musician

‘One’, a single released by Tiwa Savage in November 2018, has been taken down from YouTube.

Ajibola Olumuyiwa Danladi, popularly known as Danny Young, an Afropop artiste, had alleged that the singer lifted the lyrics of his song for her single.
His song, ‘Oju Ti Ti Won’, was released in 2008. He had threatened to file an intellectual copyright suit against Savage.

It was discovered on Wednesday that the video for ‘One’ is no longer available on the YouTube page of Savage.
In place of the video is a message which reads: “Tiwa Savage One is no longer available due to a copyright claim by a third party.”

Barely 48 hours after the release of the song, controversy started after singer Danny Young alleged on his Instagram page that Tiwa Savage had taken a line off his 2009 single, ‘Oju Ti won.’

The allegation was dismissed by a number of his fans, with Tiwa Savage refusing to comment and going ahead to release the visuals to the songs a few weeks later.

According to NET, Young confirmed that he filed the complaint against the singer.

He said: “When I heard her song last year, my lawyers reached out to her lawyers but they ignored us. They thought it was just one small boy talking.
“Don’t get me wrong, I have a lot of respect for Tiwa Savage and I respect her craft as well, but you see, two brothers can have a case in court and still have a good relationship with each other.
“Tiwa and every other singer out there is a role model, so we must not continue to operate in an industry that has no structure. I am just trying to do the right thing and trying to prove that copyright issues must be taken seriously especially in the Nigerian entertainment industry.”

Following the release of ‘One’, Savage had publicly thanked Wale Turner for “blessing” her with the song.

As at the morning of Wednesday, January 23, 2019, it was confirmed that the video was no longer available on the streaming platform following a complaint made by a third party believed to be Danny Young.
